Weki Meki Plays Hide and Seek

by Jo Austen

Weki Meki returned with their third mini-album HIDE and SEEK on June 18, 2020. It's their first album release since Lucky (2018). The group kept busy in between albums releases with multiple singles.

It's safe to say that the group was one of the first groups to introduce the Teen Crush concept since their debut. For those not familiarize with the term, it basically means to be a badass with neon colors and a smile.

This time around the group just nailed it! The EP works perfectly and feels very fresh and cohesive. We got a taste with "Dazzle Dazzle" back in February and the song actually adds that perfect ending.

The first track and title track "Oopsy" is catchy, flirty and goest straight to the point. Unlike the title, the song is not afraid to build a summery chorus maintained with the sweet vocals of the group. The song delivers what a single should do, be good. Noted is that the song doesn't include a rap at all, almost a standard for today's K-Pop scene, and refreshingly so, you don't miss it at all!

The second song is "Moya Moya" and is hands down a stand-out. Probably my favorite track thanks to the again, sweet vocals that the group delivers. Perfect for summer and perfect to start your day.

"The Paradise" show us maybe the future for the group? A more mature aproach that would definetly be presented in autumn colors if ever performed live. This is a whole new aspect of the group that we can start to vibe to.

And "Youniverse"... Oh Korean balladas, am I right? Something that K-Pop has mastered is to deliver those perfect songs that just put you in the mood for coffee and a warm conversation. Do I need to say more?

"Dazzle Dazzle" is the reminder that the group is still young and well, can put the Teen in Teen Crush. From one side you can ommit this song from the EP easily but thanks to the bridge we get the cohesion we needed.

We are in the presence of Weki Meki's best album to date. If the group keeps evolving like this, we are in presence of a force of quality music.
